Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
This website is very similar to the other website I researched while studying title slides. I researched this site after the last one to gain more knowledge. Also, I wanted to find common elements in different title cards/sequences. This site just farther opened my eyes to the significance of title sequences. I saw so many different movies and genres that I've watched before but never have really paid attention to. I've learned that in these sequences, credits of the people who've worked on a film are inserted. I also learned that these credits are not always in the beginning, some are in the end as well. Now, I have a gained a greater appreciation for these sequences. In films, this is the barrier from the opening sequence and the rest of the movie. Meaning, it is important and a reflection of the contents of the movie.

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
I went to this website to learn a little about title sequences. I watched some title sequences from all genres. Then, I went a little more into depth and watched genres that were specifically drama films. I saw many unique title sequences on this website. I realized that there is much effort that goes into these. This is something that I usually overlook when watching movies or Tv shows. But, I have a newfound respect for them and will look out for them more. Every film has their own way of going about title sequences. In films, this is the barrier from the opening sequence and the rest of the movie. Meaning, it is important and a reflection of the contents of the movie.

Genre Research: All the Bright Places

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? There are many different sounds and music tracks playing throughout the movie. The soundtracks are sometimes very calm and then directly after you'll see a scene change and there is a whole different mood, but it just flows together perfectly. They bring about a lightness to the scenes. They also signify mood changes within the main characters. This movie also has voiceovers. In some of the ending scenes, the main character reflects on everything that happened throughout the movie. She reflects on all the ups and downs.  What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? A element I like is that one of the main characters often hides his true feelings from people. That is something I want to portray throughout my opening sequence too. I also like the crane movements in the movie. they truly capture the full view of where scenes take place. The movie also captures raw emotion ...

Genre Research: You Get Me

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? This movie covers the suspenseful aspect I want to portray for my final task. The main character in the movie is hiding something from everyone else and while the movie is a drama, it slowly gets more thrilling. There are many closeups throughout the movie.  The soundtracks are sometimes very calm and then directly after you'll see a scene change and there is a whole different mood. A scene that you may think is just a regular scene, then the music becomes very eerie and you have to re-evaluate it. There is a constant track and steadicam camera effect that bring out the realness of the situations that occur in the movie. They also give the audience help on where to bring our attention to.  What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? I  like that voiceovers are incorporated in the movie. They work in a way so that the story is told like a memory. The voice is ...

Genre Research: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? This movie has almost all of the elements I want to cover. From voice-overs, to lighting and dialogue. The voice-overs in this movie perfectly describe what the main character fails to say in the movie. There are many different sounds and music tracks playing that bring together the entire movie. The soundtracks are sometimes very calm and then directly after you'll see a scene change and there is a whole different mood, but it just flows together perfectly. There is a constant hand-held camera effect that bring out the realness of the situations that occur in the movie. In many scenes, people can even reflect and see similarities in their own lives. There are also flashbacks throughout some scenes of the movies. These bring out the raw emotion in scenes and makes the audience understand what a character is feeling. What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? I really like ...

Genre Research: DRAMA

Image
I've decided my genre for my final task will be drama. The subgenre will be teen drama. After choosing a pitch, I researched which genre would be the best for it. As a reminder, my pitch is, "A teenage girl's bestfriend dies a tragic death that she blames herself for; now, she has to try to find a way to live with herself while knowing what really happened to her friend." After thinking about how I'd go about the final task, I knew that I wanted to do something in the thriller or drama genres. If I were to do thriller, I think I wouldn't have reached the requirements of the task. The first idea in my head was initially not thought out as well as my final pitch. My first pitch being, "A teenager is home alone while their parents are on vacation and although they think this is a good opportunity to do whatever they want, there is someone who has other plans for them." For this pitch, I was thinking about my plan to execute it and I subconsciously thou...

Genre Research: Thriller & Horror

These genres are among of some of the ones I thought about when going into this project. So, I researched it along with many other genres. Thriller and Horror are arguably one of the most interesting genres I want to indulge in. The thrill that you feel while watching movies in there’s genres are often so rewarding. They are the most suspenseful and fulfilling genres to watch. I like many elements and conventions of Horror and Thriller that I feel will cover what I am trying to express in the final task. In some films there are contrasting filters. In some parts of the videos there and black and white filters or vintage filters. These filters work to establish moods in each scene. They can start out in a dark space and as the movie progresses, it gets more complex. They are often filmed in multiple locations to set each scene in the way that the writer wants to make the audience’s interest pique. In many thrillers there are different twists and turns to try to get to the bigger pi...

Genre Research: Drama

This genre is one of the first ones I thought about when going into this project. So, I researched it along with many other genres. This genre is arguably one of the most interesting genres I indulge in. It can be interpreted hundreds of ways. It also is one of the most suspenseful and fulfilling genres to watch. In some parts of the videos there and black and white filters or vintage filters. These filters work to signify simplicity and establish moods in each scene. They are often filmed in multiple locations to set each scene in the way that the writer wants to make the audience’s interest pique. In many dramas there are different twists and turns to try to get to the bigger picture. In some dramas, mise-en-scene plays a huge role. In ...

My Pitch

Image
My Pitches:  Pitch 1: A teenager is home alone while their parents are on vacation and although they think this is a good opportunity to do whatever they want, there is someone who has other plans for them. This is my first pitch that I thought of when assigned this task. I honestly don’t want many scary movies because I get paranoid easily but I love the behind the scenes of them. The raw process of filming before editing is so cool and deconstructing a horror/suspenseful movie is fascinating to watch. So, I thought this would be a good film idea for me to produce. Also, in filming this, it would be one of the safest routes to go because it requires very few people to star in it. Meaning less of a chance of getting anyone sick or worse. I could have members of my immediate family to help if needed and we live together, so that’s a plus. This video could be done within the parameters of my house. I feel that this is also well within my capabilities to do. I already have some idea o...

Starting the Final Task

Image
Hello to anyone out there taking note of my progress. My name is Taelor Barnes and I am 17 years old. I have an older sister and a dog that has grew up with me since my parents first got her when I was 6. Academically, I am in the eleventh grade at Fort Lauderdale high school. Since ninth grade I have been waiting to take this class; it is one of the most intriguing courses I've heard about and discussed with my guidance counselor. Many of my friends have taken it in prior to the 2020/2021 school year and they have only had good things to say about it. As for the final task, I have chosen to complete it by myself. A few factors went into my decision. The main factor that led to me doing the task was the condition of the global pandemic going on right now. I don't know how long Covid-19 will be out there as well as the extent it's effect on any of my potential partners. I feel doing the project alone would be the safest thing for myself and my family. I don't want to i...
