Creative Critical Reflection

Image
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?  In the music video, I used many common conventions I saw in my research. For one, I used black/white and vintage filters that I'd seen in my research. Another convention being the multiple close ups taken as well as the simplicity of the video. In the video, I made sure to keep it as simple as possible (meaning the amount of people and wardrobe), to signify the lonely feel of the video. However, I did challenge some conventions I saw in my research. I refrained from shooting in multiple locations, something I saw often done in the indie/alternative genre. I also kept the video somewhat "dark" in the lighting aspect, something I saw that would contrast the common lightness/happiness found in this genre. For many teenagers converting to young adults, it is hard to navigate what they really want for themselves. As children, kids are asked "What is your dream job?...

My Music Video

Image
In the last project I was in front of this project, so this time around I wanted to see how it felt to be behind it. It was a completely different but exciting experience to capture and direct my friend on what to do in front of the camera. Being behind the camera made me feel more in control of what was going on and it made me less anxious because I could actually see what I was doing. I didn't have to wait until it was time to edit to see what had been created. It was so fun and easy to film and edit this time, from behind the camera. This process was kind of like a puzzle in a sense. First, I planned out/storyboarded what I envisioned in my brain. Then, when it was time to film and edit, I could see all the pieces coming together. Like when doing a puzzle, you'd see your picture that you've pieced together, come to life. You feel accomplished. This project was also easier on me because my mom could hold down my shaky hands holding the camera, since I could not use a trip...

Editing blog: Using conventions

Image
During this time around, editing was a fairly easy process. It was also the most enjoyable part of the project. Seeing what I had envisioned for the editing come to life was fulfilling and it made editing really fun for me. Since I filmed in order of the layout of the video, I didn't have to do much placement with the clips. Also, I had already known what conventions I would be using, I just had to navigate through the editing software to find what I needed. One convention being differing filters. Throughout the entire video I used a vintage film. Many of the indie/alternative music videos I've seen had a dark cast to them that fit the lyrics of the song. This is what I wanted to do as well. I also started the video off with a black and white filter to allude to the somewhat sad lyrics of the song. After, I went back to a colored filter that was slightly blue/gray tint to it. As the song becomes more lighthearted, I added more color and towards the end I went with a varied col...

Filming/editing blog: Problems with storage

Image
Sadly, when I got ready to edit my music video, I found out that I did not have enough storage left on my phone. Meaning, some of the takes I recorded did not save fully, nor was the quality good on them. Furthermore, those clips were rendered useless because I could not dump them onto my with that quality. So, the beginning stages of editing had came to a halt. Thankfully, most of shots I took were of good quality and were able to be uploaded to my computer. So, what I did was dump the footage that was taken on my phone, on my computer. Then, I deleted that footage from my phone so that I could have enough storage to reshoot the end of my music video. So, another problem I came into contact with was finding a day my friend wouldn't be busy with school work. This week being the week we came back to school and we lived about an hour away from each other. After switching around our schedules, we came up with a plan. She would make her way to my house immediately after school on Wedn...
