My Music Video

In the last project I was in front of this project, so this time around I wanted to see how it felt to be behind it. It was a completely different but exciting experience to capture and direct my friend on what to do in front of the camera. Being behind the camera made me feel more in control of what was going on and it made me less anxious because I could actually see what I was doing. I didn't have to wait until it was time to edit to see what had been created. It was so fun and easy to film and edit this time, from behind the camera. This process was kind of like a puzzle in a sense. First, I planned out/storyboarded what I envisioned in my brain. Then, when it was time to film and edit, I could see all the pieces coming together. Like when doing a puzzle, you'd see your picture that you've pieced together, come to life. You feel accomplished. This project was also easier on me because my mom could hold down my shaky hands holding the camera, since I could not use a tripod. Also, my actor was very good with her interpretations of how I explained each movement I wanted her to do. I've definitely learned from this experience, ways to make the editing process easier for me, as well as the filming process. Knowing exactly how I wanted the video to look cut out any uneasiness I would have felt while filming. That was part of the mistakes I made in my commercial project. While I did do a storyboard last time, I didn't line up the duration with my scenes, and that threw off the entire project. Another thing I learned how to do was correctly insert music into the video. Lining up the music with the scenes in this project was a crucial part of this project. It took a little bit of tweaking to completely have the lyrics reflect what I had shown in the recording. The last time I added music into my commercial, I felt that the music had been out of place and stopped abruptly. In the end, this was another experience that I think will help me eventually enhance my skills in the art of film production.

See you in the next one!
